Meet Dr. Samuel

Samuel Ezzatilord, PhD, RCC, CCC, LMCC

I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor in private practice in Vancouver, working in English and Farsi. Twenty-five years of clinical work, most of it spent sitting with people during the hardest weeks of their lives. What I have learned is that effective help rarely requires complexity.

How I got here

I began as a public health officer in southern Iran in 1999, building confidential health services for women in a conservative region. Nine years followed in veterans’ care in Tehran with chemical warfare survivors, where I learned that you cannot treat a wounded person in isolation from their family. That lesson has shaped everything since.

Twelve years with the Red Crescent across the Kurdistan and Golestan refugee camps taught me that healing has to be personal. I worked with Sufi devotional practice, traditional music and family ceremony alongside clinical care, because that was what people could actually receive.

I came to Vancouver in 2022. Working with Indigenous colleagues here introduced me to Two-Eyed Seeing, the Mi’kmaq idea of holding traditional knowledge and evidence-based practice in balance. It has defined my approach ever since. Since 2024 I have worked as a senior clinician with a BC Health Authority in Burnaby alongside my private practice.

What that means for you

I will not be shocked by what you bring me.

I know what it costs to ask for help, particularly if you come from a community where therapy is not spoken about. As an Iranian-Canadian clinician working in both English and Farsi, I have sat with that hesitation many times.

I take family seriously. If the pain involves the people you love, they can be part of the conversation.

I think trauma lives in the body, not only in the story. When the nervous system needs its own kind of support, neurofeedback sits alongside the talking work.
